Aug 12, 2012The older grinders had no locking button. They came with a thin section spanner which fitted a flat on the shaft. Newer grinders still have the flat. If the collet won't release easily with the locking button the spanner is easier I find. Some people don't bother with the pin spanner, just screw it down with their fingers and let it self tighten.
